Pros and cons of restaurant management

Restaurant managers work in some of the most alluring, thrilling and pleasant environments you can imagine. From lavish resorts in striking locations to dynamic conference centers to the most recent hotel, restaurant managers are working behind the scenes to maintain the quality of their institution.

If you are looking for a demanding, pleasing career and enjoy working in team with a lot of people, hotel or restaurant management could be right for you. As operations are becoming more difficult and precise, employers are putting more stress on dedicated training. As a restaurant manager you can work in restaurants or even run franchises for famous hotel chains. You could possibly be assigned to manage a newly built or purchased institute, or to restructure an existing one. Managers decide the charges of rooms, manage restaurant operations, and control the staff.

Being a restaurant manager is a wonderful lifestyle, not a stressful job. Employers believe that prospective candidates should think about the following parameters: What type of restaurant business are you interested in, since there is a huge difference between fine dining, family style, fast food and a sports bar ambiance. These restaurants attract specific workforce of professionals. A fine dining facility might draw more skilled and established employees, whereas a fast food eating joint might interest younger ones.

After successful restaurant job search, ask prospective employers how long they have been in the same business, where they see the business growing, what prospect exist for improvement and what type of manager-training curriculum they have. After mere three to five years, you can look at a privately held restaurant where you can go in as a general manager and demand a salary of $60,000-plus for your capabilities or partnership.

  2. I liked the tips about what questions you should ask at an interview. Right now I'm getting prepared for my internship as a Les Roches Chicago student, I'm applying for the position of assistant to restaurant manager, but I guess some of the questions apply to my case as well. Many thanks!
